Cleaning and thermal paste

Xbox Series X clean and thermal paste: how it works

Series X consoles that get loud or hot usually have dust buildup and old thermal paste.

What it does: cleaning clears the dust out of the fan, heatsink and airflow path. Fresh thermal paste carries heat from the processor into the heatsink, so the console runs cooler and quieter.

  1. Open the consoleThe shell and internal shielding come off.
  2. Clean out the dustThe fan, heatsink and airflow path are cleaned.
  3. Replace the thermal pasteOld paste is removed and fresh paste is applied to the chip.
  4. Reassemble and testI check fan noise and temperatures before returning it.
